"Anyone have any advice or experience on this? My husband and his ex wife have JOINT custody. Today we received a letter from his ex wife saying she took the 12 year old and is getting her braces (surprise to us and it's not anything that was agreed upon). Do we have to pay for these kinds of medical expenses since they are not "necessary?" Also the amount for braces is going ot be $5300 +. I KNOW FOR A FACT it can be done cheaper than that...heck mine that I got recently were considerably cheaper.
Also in this letter she informed us that we have to pay another bill for the 12 year old eye exam and contacts (again something we knew nothing about). Even more surprising was the fact that just less than a year ago, his ex sent us a bill for over $450 for the cost of glasses and an eye exam for this same daughter, which again we felt was really high, but we paid our portion.
We don't consider these things (braces, and contacts) to be mandatory or life and death? Do we still have to pay them? ALso if so, do we have to pay the full amount, or can we pay what the price "should be" if she shopped smart and went to Wal-Mart instead of Lenscrafters, or to regular dentists instead of "overpriced orthodontic specialists"
Thanks
Nikki"
